OpenQM Open Source Use Agreement

The open source version of the OpenQM Multivalue Database is released under the terms of the General Public Licence version 2 (June 1991). The full wording of this licence may be found here or on the Free Software Foundation web site.

Ladybridge Systems makes the OpenQM source available strictly for use within the terms of the GPL. Any violation of this licence will be pursued to the maximum extent allowed in law. You are strongly advised to seek legal advice if you are in any doubt about compliance with the GPL. We consider the GNU FAQ and its interpretation of the meaning and use of the GPL to be binding upon us and you. Click here to read more.

Users of the open source version of OpenQM must register for access to the download site, giving their name, postal address and email address. Access is controlled by a password that must not be divulged to third parties.

Whilst your planned use may fall within the strict rules of the GPL, we would strongly recommend the small investment required for a commercial licence. The reasons for this are:

  1. The open source version is for Linux only and requires that you build it before you can do anything with it. Depending on the version of Linux in use, this may be trivial or might require significant modifications. In particular, moving to an alternative operating system may be complex.
  2. The open source version does not include all features of the commercial product. This divergence is likely to become greater with each new release.
  3. The open source version is intended as a "sandbox" for developers to experiment with new ideas that they may wish to contribute back to the mainstream QM product. It is updated infrequently.
  4. Like all GPL software, the open source comes with no warranty. We give no guarantees that it will build or run correctly.
  5. There is absolutely no support for the open source version. A commercial licence comes with 60 days free support. After that time, support is available on a "pay as you go" basis where you only pay for your actual use of the service rather than the traditional annual contract. If you are using the open source version for business purposes, loss of service while you investigate problems could have serious implications.
  6. You need to be absolutely certain that your use of the open source falls within the rules imposed by the GPL. Violation could require you to release your own software as open source.

Having said all of the above, if you want to continue with the open source release, we wish you success with your project. On the other hand, if you would like further details of the fully supported commercial version of this product, please email any questions via the normal support system.

A four user, annually renewable developer licence is available free of charge to genuine application developers who have a product that they intend to make available for other commercial OpenQM users.

If you are already registered for access to the open source download, click here to continue, using your registered email address as your username. (Dealers and distributors can access the open source after logging on to this site.)

If you have forgotten your password, click here. To modify an existing password, click here.

If you are not already registered, please provide the information below. Because we have received so many registrations with ficticious contact details, these will be verified before issue of a password which will be supplied by email, post or telephone. Registration implies acceptance of the conditions of use set out above.
