Dynamic hashed files are an important element of QM. Unlike the static hashed files found in many other multivalue environments, dynamic files require no periodic maintenance to reconfigure for changing data volume. Instead, the reconfiguration is automatic and takes place continuously as the file content is modified. The small performance degradation that this causes is usually significantly less than that resulting frm static files that are not opimally configured.

Dynamic files are also ideal for 24x7 environments where there is no regular scheduled downtime in which file reconfiguration could be performed.

For a full description of how dynamic files operate, see this technical note.
